National Convener of the National Consultation for the Transforming Education Summit Dr. Mahmood Shougee has stated that the Maldivian education system has set an example for the rest of the countries in the region.
Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News on International Day of Education, Dr. Shougee said transformative changes are being made to the Maldivian education system. He said that the Maldives is exceptional in the region in providing opportunities for all students to pursue a free education. He noted the improvements that can be made such as focusing on educating and training 16-18 year olds who have not achieved an A-level education.
Also on the television programme, Senior Curriculum Development Analyst at the National Institute of Education (NIE) Gulfishan Shafeeu said that the changes to the national curriculum have resulted in an increase in the capability of students to work together and learn by themselves. She added that engineering, math, and information technology modules will be introduced to the curriculum.
The theme of International Day of Education 2023 is to invest in people and prioritise education. The day calls for maintaining strong political mobilisation around education and charting the way to translate commitments and global initiatives into action.
