President appoints new High Commissioner to Sri Lanka

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Ali Faiz as the new High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka. President Solih presented the high commissioner with his letter of credence at a ceremony held at the President's Office.

Prior to his appointment, Ali Faiz served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs since November 2022. He has also served as a member of the Police Board since April 2021, and Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also held several executive positions in both the public and private sectors including as the Managing Director of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO).

The Parliament of the Maldives approved the appointment of Faiz as the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka with 62 votes in favour. President Solih nominated Faiz as the High Commissioner to Sri Lanka to replace Omar Abdul Razzak, who was appointed as the Ambassador to Belgium and the Mission to the European Union (EU).
