Gov't says resort development in Kaashidhoo lagoon will benefit people

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom stated the development of a resort island in the lagoon of Kaashidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, would greatly benefit the farming and fishing community of the island.

The government has opened 14 tourism projects for tender, including the development of a resort in Kaashidhoo lagoon. The largest lease acquisition cost among the newly opened islands is for the resort development project in Kaashidhoo and Nilandhoo in Faafu Atoll. The minimum lease acquisition cost for each of these projects is USD2.2 million.

In a tweet, Minister Mausoom said that the decision to open a resort in Kaashidhoo lagoon shows the vision of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He said the resort will be completed within the next three years at most. He also mentioned that the resort will bring many benefits to the residents of Kaashidhoo.

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that Kaashidhoo lagoon has been opened for resort development after considering many factors and after conducting the necessary studies. The government is making efforts to expand tourism to all parts of the country and to provide the benefits of tourism to the public as well. As such, there are three islands in the northernmost part of the country among the islands announced in this round. These are the islands announced as part of the government's efforts to expand tourism in the area while the Hanimaadhoo International Airport is being developed to a modern level. The government has set a target of developing 8,000 tourism beds in the northernmost part of the country with the airport.
