Foundation stone for 100 housing units laid in Hinnavaru

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has launched the project to develop 100 housing units in Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll. The foundation of the housing units was laid by the Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddin.

Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister Akram said that Hinnavaru is one of the first islands in the country to face housing shortages. He said there are families who have been forced to live in small houses under poor conditions. He also said that the aim of the previous government was to reclaim the land of Hinnavaru and bring an immediate solution to the housing problem faced by the public.

Donbez Private Limited was awarded the contract in July 2022 to construct 100 housing units in Hinnavaru as part of the government's efforts to solve the housing problem faced by the growing population. Under the project, 50 row houses and 50 housing units will be constructed in an area of 700sqft. Each unit will consist of three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a sitting room, a kitchen, a dining room, a balcony, a laundry area, and a storeroom. Around USD5.4 million has been allocated under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) for the project. The contractor is required to complete the project within a year.
