Villingili and Koodoo will be connected as pledged: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated Villingili and Kooddoo will be connected as pledged by the government. He made the remarks while addressing the campaign rally held for the presidential primary of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

Speaking in Vilingili, President Solih said the government would fulfill the pledges made to the individuals of the island as they have requested. He said the government is preparing to commence the project to connect Villingili and Kooddoo. He said that the government decided to expand the services of Villingili Hospital and the construction of a new hospital building. He said that a contractor is currently being sought for the construction of the new hospital. He also said that the Villingili harbour is being developed upon the request of the public. He added the government contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for the development of the harbour.

The main domestic airport in the region is located in Kooddoo which is the centre of economic activities. Many residents in Villingili also work to earn an income in Kooddoo. As such, connecting Villingili and Kooddoo and increasing the economic activities of the island is a pledge made by President Solih.
