Speaking to PSM News, President of Uligan Council Ahmed Abu Bakr said that land plots of 2,000sqft and 1,000sqft have been allocated for the projects. He said the council wishes to open the guesthouse and city hotel this year.

The previous project to develop a city hotel and yacht marina with assistance from Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) was halted after 75% of the project was completed. As such, a staff accommodation block and a 25-guestroom building have been built. Council President Abu Bakr said residents of Uligan have been expecting the development of a yacht marina for 12 years.
