Ministry of Health has contracted Duplex Private Limited to construct a hospital building in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll.
As per the agreement, the contractor has been tasked to complete the construction of the 30-bed hospital building within 18 months at a cost of USD8 million funded from the state budget. The hospital will also have an accommodation block and a building to provide additional services as part of the project.
Ihavandhoo, which has a population of 3,300 residents, is currently receiving health services at the Aminadhiyo Health Centre on the island. Residents of Ihavandhoo had previously been travelling by sea to Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll or Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll to seek the services of a specialist consultant. Therefore, the completion of the new hospital is expected to bring great relief to the residents of the island.
