MDP to place 243 ballot boxes for primary election

The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to place 243 ballot boxes for the primary election.

MDP stated that 49 ballot boxes will be placed in the Greater Male’ Region and 194 boxes will be placed in the atolls. As such, the boxes will be placed at various schools in Male’ and the atolls. The election will be held from 0900hrs to 1700hrs on January 28.

MDP has opened to become monitors for the primary election. In addition, members of the media interested in becoming monitors are required to submit applications by January 20. The main ruling party stated that one representative of each print and online media and two representatives of each television station will be allowed near a ballot box at one time.

A total of 57,257 MDP members are eligible to vote in the primary election. The candidates are incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
