Maldives sends condolences to Nepal over airplane crash

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of condolence to Prime Minister of Nepal Puspa Kamal Dahal, following the loss of lives in a tragic airplane crash in the city of Pokhara, Nepal, on January 15.

In the message, Minister Shahid said it was with profound shock and sorrow that he received the news of the plane crash, which caused the tragic loss of lives of those on board. He said the government and the people of the Maldives extend their heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the government and the people of Nepal.

The Yeti Airlines ATR 72 plummeted into a steep gorge, smashed into pieces, and burst into flames as it approached the central city of Pokhara, in Nepal's worst aviation disaster since 1992. The cause was not yet known but a video on social media showed the twin-propeller aircraft banking suddenly and sharply to the left as it approached Pokhara airport, which was followed by a loud explosion.
