MTCC completes Dharavandhoo Coastal Protection Project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the coastal protection project in Dharavandhoo, Baa Atoll.

The shore protection project of Dharavandhoo was contracted to MTCC to provide a solution for the problem of erosion faced by the island. The project began on May 28, 2022, and was worth USD1.4 million. The scope of works included the construction of a 470m breakwater, 96m revetment, and 10,800cbm beach filling operations.

Dharandhoo has 1,200 residents and 14 guesthouses. The island council and businesses have expressed concern over the negative impact of erosion on the island’s tourism businesses. Many large trees on the shoreline have also fallen due to erosion in the past four years. The completion of the coastal protection project is expected to solve these issues.
