Nine new resorts to be opened in 2023

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that nine new resorts will be opened this year.

The government has been providing assistance for investors to develop and open new resorts and has opened bids to increase opportunities to develop tourism across the Maldives. Currently, a total of 59,608 tourist beds in 1,207 facilities are in operation, which includes 41,049 beds from 168 resorts.

Statistics from the tourism ministry show that five resorts were opened last year, which include three resorts in Kaafu Atoll, and resorts in Meemu Atoll and Raa Atoll. Two of the resorts opened in Kaafu Atoll were developed after land reclamation. The resorts opened in 2022 were Alila Kothaifaru Maldives, Aanugandu Island Resort, Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort and Spa, Oaga Art Resort, and Madifushi Private Island.
