ADK Hospital has opened the first-ever Hyperbaric Treatment Unit in a hospital in the Maldives. The Hyperbaric Treatment Unit was inaugurated at a ceremony held at ADK Hospital by Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mausoom said the Maldives is known as a safe destination to dive and the decompresssion chamber is very useful for the dive industry. He said establishing a deco chamber in the Greater Male' Region will be crucial, especially with the growing demand for tourism activities.

Chief Medical Officer of ADK Hospital Dr. Abdulla Niyaf said the establishment of such a therapy unit is a delight for doctors and members of the public. He said resorts face various difficulties in providing prompt treatment. He, however, noted that ADK Hospital will be able to provide treatment in a proper manner and with the confidence of the people.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a specialised treatment that uses a combination of elevated ambient pressure and concentrated oxygen. It can be used to heal burns, decompression sickness, and non-healing wounds.

ADK Hospital has trained three doctors from Singapore to use the deco chamber. The hospital also trained nurses and professionals for the treatment.
