Maldives and Pakistan discuss training opportunities for journalists

The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has discussed with the High Commission of Pakistan in the Maldives the possibility of providing training and capacity-building programmes for Maldivian journalists through Pakistani educational institutions.

President of MMC Ahmed Musthafa attended the meeting with Council Member Mohamed Afrah, Council Member Moosa Rasheed, Council Member Uza Arumaan Rasheed, and Secretary General Dr. Ibrahim Sameer. High Commissioner of Pakistan Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Muhammed Fayyaz Gilani and Deputy Head of Mission Zulqurnain Ahmed also attended the meeting.

Discussions were based on seeking assistance in sending Maldivian journalists to Pakistan for training and capacity-building programmes and also exploring the possibility of inviting experts from a Pakistani educational institution to the Maldives and conducting training programmes. Discussions were also held on the facilitation of journalism scholarship programmes from Pakistan to the Maldives.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Gilani assured that he will facilitate in providing training and capacity-building programmes for Maldivian journalists. He assured that he will also assist in making arrangements to conduct training programmes and vowed to continue his support in signing memoranda of understanding between MMC and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan to work collaboratively.
