National Drug Agency (NDA) has announced that a community-based treatment and rehabilitation programme will be conducted in Kulhudhuffushi City, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
The programme will be jointly conducted by NDA, Kulhudhuffushi City Council and Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. As such, doctors, nurses and health workers have already been trained to start the programme in Kulhudhuffushi. In addition, NDA stated that field training is being prepared and a community awareness programme will also be conducted as part of the programme. NDA stated that registration for the programme will be open at the Kulhudhuffushi Public Health Unit from January 4.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Director General of NDA Aishath Mehereena said that the main purpose of the programme is to provide opportunities for addicts to receive treatment services. She also said that one of the purposes of such a programme is to provide individuals with the opportunity to seek treatment on their own islands instead of relying on the capital Male' City. She also said that the community-based treatment and rehabilitation programme includes a community or rehabilitation section in addition to medical treatment. She said that the programme will be conducted in five atolls this year.
In addition, drug awareness programmes will be conducted by NDA in different parts of the country.
