President highlights importance of maintaining MDP rule

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has highlighted the importance of maintaining the rule of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to continue developmental initiatives.

Speaking at a campaign event in Miladhoo, Noonu Atoll, President Solih said that MDP members should prioritise winning the upcoming presidential election to continue the administration’s efforts to equitably provide essential services across the Maldives. He said that maintaining the rule of MDP is in the best interest of citizens, as seen from the projects commenced by the party when it first took office and the ongoing projects during the current administration.

Additionally, President Solih recollected the state of the country when MDP was not in power, highlighting how the public had to live in fear due to the violence in the streets and how the government's power was used to unlawfully imprison dissidents. He also said that islands like Miladhoo were ignored by previous governments but that his administration has developed Miladhoo's harbour, upgraded the powerhouse, and is establishing clean water supply services. He added that an ATM will be installed in the island this year.

Furthermore, President Solih said the MDP primary election should be spirited and urged members to vote and win the presidential election after the primaries.
