MPS says 28 expats deported for prostitution and human trafficking

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated that a total of 28 individuals were deported last year in the fight against prostitution and human trafficking in the country.

MPS stated that many efforts have been made to prevent prostitution and human trafficking cases in the past year. As such, 25 operations were conducted against prostitution and human trafficking last year. Of these, 14 operations were conducted on intelligence information and the other 11 operations were conducted in collaboration with MPS and Maldives Immigration, according to statistics published by MPS.

The statistics stated that a total of 32 individuals, including men and women, were arrested last year. They include six locals and 26 foreigners. A total of 28 foreigners were deported last year for prostitution and human trafficking, including those who were arrested before 2022.

MPS stated that a total of 11 cases of prostitution and human trafficking were investigated last year. Of these, six cases are still under investigation, two have been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) for prosecution and three have been filed.
