President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed have begun campaigning in the atolls in a bid to win the primary election of the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
President Solih is visiting the islands of Raa Atoll after concluding his official visit to Alifushi. He was warmly welcomed on his first stop in Maakurathu, where he met with MDP members and residents of the island.
Meanwhile, Speaker Nasheed has begun a trip to Alifu Alifu Atoll, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Dhaalu Atoll, and Faafu Atoll. His first visit was to Thoddoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll and is being accompanied by senior campaign managers.
MDP has published the final voters’ list with the names of over 57,000 members eligible to vote in the primary election scheduled to be held on January 28.
