President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the government will soon reveal details on the changes to be made to the disability allowance. He made the statement while addressing a function in Alifushi, Raa Atoll, to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022.
Addressing the function, President Solih underlined his efforts to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities and mobilise support for their dignity, rights, and well-being. The president emphasised the importance of the National Disability Registry (NDR), saying that the data collected through the registry would make it easier for the administration to meet the specific needs and requirements of disabled people.
Furthermore, President Solih also said that the NDR is an essential component of the administration’s efforts to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities and would also aid in providing the disability allowance. He further highlighted the many skills and talents of persons with disabilities and said that the items showcased at the Riveli Exhibition are a testament to this fact. He also spoke about marking an occasion dedicated to persons with disabilities and ensuring their every right.
At the function, President Solih presented the Riveli Thari Awards to the winners of the Riveli Exhibition. The awards for 2022 were given to eight people across four categories.
