Vice President says new aircraft prove economy is thriving

Vice President Faisal Naseem has said the arrival of more aircraft at a challenging time proves the economy of the country is thriving. He made the remark while speaking at a ceremony held to mark the arrival of two aircraft for domestic operations of the national airline, Maldivian.

Speaking to PSM News, Vice President Naseem said the arrival of two more aircraft shows the results of the efforts of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to boost the economy at a challenging time. He said the addition of two more aircraft to the fleet of the national airline will bring great convenience to the people of the Maldives. He said the government's most important policy is to facilitate the transportation system and connect the entire country by air.

Furthermore, Vice President Naseem mentioned the efforts of Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) to further expand its services. Highlighting the airline already flies to 14 destinations, he added besides increasing the number of flights, the airline is also working to build youth in the field.

Maldivian brought two ATR-72 aircraft for its domestic operations. These have a capacity of 74 passengers and are equipped with modern facilities, low fuel consumption, and will lower maintenance costs. IASL hopes these aircraft will further strengthen the services provided by Maldivian.

In addition to these two aircraft, one more aircraft is scheduled to be brought in for domestic flights. It is an ATR-42 with a capacity of 50 passengers.
