The Foreign Service Institute of Maldives (FOSIM) has decided to conduct training sessions to provide information on the foreign policy of the Maldives.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that FOSIM plans to conduct the sessions as part of its outreach programmes aimed at state officials, and school and university students. The sessions are separated into different modules to provide information on foreign policy, the work of the foreign ministry, the country’s bilateral relations, and commercial diplomacy.
The Maldives Foreign Service Act has given more authority to FOSIM. The act was ratified by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in November 2021 and came into effect in May 2022. The Maldives Foreign Service governs the establishment of a separate entity to implement the foreign policy of the Maldives and specifies its organisational structure, management policy, and matters relating to diplomatic cadre.
Under the Maldives Foreign Service Act, FOSIM is tasked with becoming a centre of excellence for diplomatic training and skill development as well as a reputed national Institute for nurturing a professional foreign service corps and undertaking research on pertinent foreign policy issues.
