Companies interested in operating school in Hoarafushi

Three companies have expressed interest in operating an international school in Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll. Hoarafushi Island Council has extended the deadline to submit proposals to January 22.

Hoarafushi Island Council stated that the aim of opening an international school is to provide students with the opportunity to receive quality modern education from preschool to key stage five. Under the project, a building on 11,406sqft of land with a surrounding wall and gates will be handed over to the company. The area will include a playground, a warehouse, a public toilet, and a designated toilet for students.

In addition, the school will have the capacity to enroll 200 students and the council will provide the necessary equipment and resources. The company will be required to operate the school for a period of between 5-15 years and start teaching in the 2023/24 academic year.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) began construction of the school building in April 2022 under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative with USD130,000 of funding from the Hoarafushi Island Council budget.
