Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the largest number of tourist visits to the Maldives in the first two days of 2023 were from Italy.
As per the statistics published by the tourism ministry, 11,112 tourists visited the Maldives in the first two days of the year. These include 4,625 tourists arriving on the first day and 6,487 tourists arriving on the second day of this year. It was a higher number recorded in those two days compared to the past two years. A total of 6,165 tourists arrived in the first two days of 2021 and 10,250 arrived in 2022, according to the ministry.
The statistics show that the highest number of tourists visited from Italy with 2,343 arrivals. The second-highest number of tourists visited from Russia with 1,784 arrivals recorded, and the third-highest number of tourists visited from India which was 753 arrivals.
By the end of 2022, a total of 1.7 million tourists had visited the Maldives which was higher than the government's initial target of 1.6 million. This year, the government aims to bring in 1.8 million tourists to set a new record.
