The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has revealed that it concluded the investigation of 46 cases related to judges and dismissed four judges in 2022.
As per the yearly statistics report published by JSC, 393 complaints were submitted to the commission last year which is a 2.72% decline compared to the 404 complaints received in 2021. The report said that JSC decided to remove four judges from their posts, nine judges were ordered to complete the training programme with advice, and three judges were suspended. Of the cases examined by the commission, 24 cases were filed for lack of evidence. In addition, 12 judges retired, six judges resigned, and 11 new judges were appointed last year. They include three judges appointed to the High Court, two judges appointed to the Superior Courts, and six judges appointed to the Magistrate Courts, according to the report.
The report also said that 33 Chief Magistrates and two chief judges were appointed. At the end of last year, there were 170 judges in the judiciary which include 147 male judges and 23 female judges.
