3 years bill pending by some customers: WAMCO

Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has said some customers seeking services from the corporation have three years of bills pending.

The issue of regular non-payment of bills after obtaining the waste collection services provided by WAMCO is a major challenge facing the corporation.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Managing Director, Commercial Services Abdulla Shinan said that some customers who have registered with WAMCO since 2021 have not paid their bills for three years. Shinan said following the changes brought to registration, 80% of service seekers pay their bills.

He said about 15,000 people have registered for WAMCO services in the city and about 35,000-40,000 households are unregistered. He added a total of 21,000 households have registered in Male', Villimale and Hulhumale and the payments from these households are received regularly.

Furthermore, he noted although there is a large amount of outstanding bills by customers, most of the customers are now paying their bills regularly. In this regard, he revealed 80-90% of all households registered for WAMCO’s services in the Greater Male’ Region are paying their bills regularly. He also said WAMCO has introduced payment options for those who find it difficult to pay their bills in bulk.

WAMCO provides waste collection and disposal services to nearly 25,000 registered households in the Greater Male’ Region. WAMCO charges a monthly fee of USD10 for the service.
