ECM to set up re-registration portal for presidential election 2023

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has announced that voters will be able to register online to vote in the presidential election 2023.

Speaking to PSM News, Vice President Ismail Habeeb said that a special portal has been set up to facilitate re-registration to vote in the election. He said the portal is currently in the testing phase and he noted that the portal will allow anyone anywhere to register online. In addition, he said that the registration process is a huge task and it has been decided to start the work as soon as the election headquarters is arranged. He also said that the commission will also be relieved by the opportunity to re-register online.

In every election held in the Maldives, eligible voters are given the opportunity to re-register to vote at a place other than their current registered place. Previously, this was done by filling out a form for re-registration and submitting it to the ECM Headquarters in Male' City. In the atolls of the Maldives, the form should be submitted to the island council offices and city councils, according to ECM.

The five-year presidential election is scheduled for September 2023. The exact date of the election will be announced on January next year.
