The Election Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has announced that the largest number of ballot boxes in next year's presidential election will be in Hulhumale'.
With the increasing population in the city, at least 40 ballot stations will have to be set up in the two phases of Hulhumale' alone. ECM is already preparing for next year's presidential election with the administrative work being carried out according to the internal schedule and determining the ballot stations where the boxes for the votes will be placed.
Speaking to PSM News, Secretary General of ECM Hassan Zakariyya said that the largest number of ballot stations will be located in Hulhumale'. He said that at least 40 will be set up in the two phases of Hulhumale'. He also said that there are not many buildings in the second phase of Hulhumale' that can be used for ballot stations, adding that the ballot arrangements in the area will be expensive.
Additionally, the recruitment and training of temporary employees are being carried out and ECM is in discussion with the relevant ministries and agencies to identify the countries with Maldivians where the ballot boxes should be placed. ECM will use part of the Radio Building of the Public Service Media (PSM) as the election headquarters.
