Maldives will be one of the most favoured destinations: China

Ambassador of China to the Maldives Wang Lixin has stated that the Maldives will always be one of the most favoured destinations for Chinese tourists. She made the remark after China announced it will lift the quarantine for travellers in January.

In a tweet, Ambassador Wang said the outbound tourism for Chinese citizens will be resumed in an orderly manner very soon and expressed her belief that the Maldives will be one of the most favoured destinations for Chinese tourists.

The government of China began easing COVID-19 restrictions this month and will remove the quarantine requirement for international arrivals on January 8. Ambassador Wang said passengers travelling to China will need to take a nucleic acid test within 48 hours before boarding, but nucleic acid screenings and centralised isolation after arrival will be cancelled.

China was the largest tourist market for the Maldives before the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. However, tourists from China have not travelled to the Maldives in the past three years due to the safety measures taken in China to halt the spread of COVID-19.
