MDP assigns numbers for candidates in primary election

The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has assigned the numbers for the candidates contesting in the primary election.

MDP announced that Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has been assigned Candidate Number 1 and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been assigned Candidate Number 2. Speaker Nasheed and President Solih are the only two members who submitted their forms for the primary election. Speaker Nasheed is the President of MDP and President Solih is the leader of the party.

MDP closed the opportunity to submit candidacies for the primary election on December 24. The party will next be publishing the voters’ list and accepting complaints. The primary election will be held on January 28.
