Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives have concluded a coding teaching programme called Hour of Code, an annual event organised to commemorate International Computer Science Week.
More than 1,000 people from 17 atolls in the Maldives participated in the event. Under the programme, participants of different ages were grouped together with staff from Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives, mentors, and school teachers all across the country and equipped the next generation with computer skills. Many activities were also held to encourage participation and the importance of computer science was highlighted.
The event was inaugurated by Minister of Education Aishath Ali. She said that the skills learned in the field of computer science are not only vital for children’s careers in the future but also valuable in every aspect of life. She said Hour of Code is a great opportunity to get to know the world of computer science and how it can benefit children. She added work would be done to promote the coding sector with assistance from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology,
Hour of Code is a great opportunity to introduce students of all ages to coding and develop an interest in computer science. Learning computer science at an early age can lay the foundation for advancement in any field and increase children's creativity, problem-solving abilities, and skills.
