The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for Southeast Asia Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh has arrived in the Maldives. She is on a visit to the Maldives at the invitation of Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem.
Ministry of Health said that next year will be the last year of Dr. Poonam as the Regional Director of the WHO for Southeast Asia and her visit to the Maldives is remarkable. She will meet Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Health Minister Ahmed Naseem, and senior health officials. She will also meet with senior dignitaries from the United Nations (UN) agencies.
Dr. Poonam was appointed WHO Regional Director for Southeast Asia in In 2014 and was elected for an additional five-year term in 2018. During her term, WHO has provided a lot of assistance to the health sector of the Maldives during her tenure. They have also provided assistance in various ways to strengthen and expand the health sector in the Maldives.
