President of Maldives National Party (MNP) Mohamed Nazim has received the party ticket to run in the 2023 presidential election uncontested.
Nazim, who is also a member of the Parliament, had been the only individual to submit his candidacy for the party’s primary election, which was scheduled for January.
Former President Abdulla Yameen will be running in the 2023 presidential election as the candidate of the main opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), while the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will be holding a primary election to choose its candidate. Numerous parties have expressed interest in fielding candidates for the presidential election, including the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
