ACC submits case against former gender ministry officials

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to file charges against three former senior officials of the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.

ACC investigated a case involving government officials taking action that goes against the interest of the state. The commission requested the PGO to file charges against the former members of the gender ministry's bid committee, which includes Minister of State Aishath Rasheed, Director Hudhoodha Waheed, and Director Aminath Shihama.

The case involves the ministry’s action in hiring a contractor to renovate a drug detoxification and community rehabilitation centre in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. It states that the ministry’s bid committee had awarded the contract to the company that received the second-highest marks in the evaluation of the proposals.

ACC stated that its investigation found that the committee hired the company that received the second highest marks in order to benefit the company, which had proposed a bid that was USD43,000 higher than the company that received the highest marks. As such, the commission requested that the members of the bid committee be charged with misuse of their position and taking action that went against the interest of the state.
