The Communication Authority of the Maldives (CAM) has given the first telecommunication infrastructure license to Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CAM Ilyas Ahmed handed over the license to Managing Director of HDC Ahmed Athif at a ceremony. The license allows HDC to build telecommunication infrastructure related to its Open Access Network and smart city initiative in Hulhumale’.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director Athif said the license will allow HDC to expand its network and introduce technological solutions to ease the convenience for the residents of Hulhumale’. He noted that the solutions already introduced by HDC have been well received and that the company will be expanding its services in the near future. He detailed that the city surveillance system will be introduced next year and that preparations are being made to introduce smart parking, electric charging, and technological solutions to municipal services. He added that the Open Access Network, which is currently available in phase I, will soon be expanded to phase II.
Also at the ceremony, CEO Ilyas highlighted that HDC is the first company to receive the license, as the company is providing a cheap and trusted telecommunications network service within a reliable model.
The Open Access Network provides telecommunications services, internet, and television services through a single network to residents of Hulhumale’. HDC also provided Fiber To The Home (FTTH) connections under the network for residents to obtain internet and cable TV services.
