Mayor of Addu City Ali Nizar has stated that preparations are being made for Flydubai’s direct flights.
Flydubai, an United Arab Emirates (UAE) government-owned low-cost airline, is preparing to launch direct flights to Addu from February 4, 2023, and connect the city with 250 destinations.
Speaking to PSM News, Mayor Nizar said the low number of tourist beds is a hindrance to the development of tourism in the southern region and that the government aims to add 8,000 beds to Addu. He also said that special zones have been designated for the development of guesthouses and city hotels.
Furthermore, Mayor Nizar said that services used by tourists are being improved and that special beach areas are being developed for tourists in Feydhoo and Hithadhoo. He added that work is being conducted to upgrade diving centres and resorts and that efforts are being made to clean public areas and repair roads.
Furthermore, Mayor Nizar said that discussions have been made to introduce a special Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus service for tourists and to establish means by which tourists can easily obtain information on the bus schedule. He expressed confidence that the next year will see the tourism industry in the south reach new heights, adding that campaigns will be conducted with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to market the southern region of the Maldives as a top travel destination.
