Former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh has been appointed to the Police Board.
Ministry of Home Affairs stated that Faseeh will be replacing President of the Police Board Ali Faiz, who has been appointed as High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka. The new president will be elected during a Police Board meeting. Faseeh was the Commissioner of Police during President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration and later served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The Police Board was established under the Police Service Act in 2021. The act mandates the formation of a seven-member Police Board to assist in matters of appointing the commissioner and deputy commissioner of police and advice ministers and relevant authorities on policing matters. The board consists of two members appointed by the president, three members who are experts from the relevant fields, and two members appointed to represent the general public.
