Maldives assures commitment to upholding One-China Principle

Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that the Maldives is committed to upholding the One-China Principle. He made the statement during a meeting with the Ambassador of China to the Maldives Wang Lixin at the President's Office.

At the meeting, Vice President Naseem and Ambassador Wang highlighted the longstanding close friendship and cooperation between the two countries and discussed ways to strengthen relations further in areas of mutual interest. They also discussed collaboration in the areas of healthcare, fisheries, and climate change.

During the meeting, Vice President Naseem noted the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China this year and assured the ambassador of the country’s commitment to upholding the One-China Principle. He also noted that the two countries share common goals of maintaining peace and security.

Other topics discussed at the meeting included securing scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students, especially in the education sector, infrastructure development, and cultural exchange programmes. Vice President Naseem and Ambassador Wang also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the coming years.
