Maldives committed to upholding SAARC Charter principles

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reiterated that the Maldives will always uphold the principles of the Charter of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). He made the remark in a felicitation message sent to the Secretary-General of SAARC Esala Ruwan Weerakoon commemorating the 38th SAARC Charter Day.

In his message, President Solih sent felicitations to the secretariat, affiliated institutions, and the people of the South Asian nations on the 38th SAARC Charter Day which is observed every year on December 8. He said the Maldives recognises the significance of adhering to the regional collaboration to ensure peace and stability for all and reiterated the commitment of the Maldives to the principles and values underpinning the SAARC Charter.

Ending his message, President Solih highlighted the long histories of trade, cultural exchange, and goodwill in times of need that have bound the people of SAARC countries. He expressed hope to continue to work together to achieve progress and prosperity for the people of the SAARC region.
