PGO raises 249 charges against 192 suspects in November

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) raised 249 charges against 192 suspects in November.

The monthly statistics for November show that PGO accepted 103 of the 273 submitted cases, rejected 41 cases, sent back 69 cases for further clarification, and decided to evaluate 60 cases. The statistics also show drug offenses were the largest number of cases submitted to the office and to the court for prosecution, the same as in previous months. As such, 61 cases involving drug use were submitted to the courts. Most of the court cases submitted for prosecution were involving individuals aged 25-35.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) made the most requests for prosecution with the submission of 260 cases. Anti-Corruption Corruption (ACC) sent eight cases and the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) sent two cases.

The statistics for November also show that the Drug Court concluded 101 cases and the Criminal Court concluded 64 cases. Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhdhoo Court concluded 14 cases, which was the most out of the atoll courts.
