Crane lifted from sea, no delay in Thilamale’ Bridge project

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has stated that the crane that fell into the sea has been lifted out and has caused no delays in the Thilamale’ Bridge project.

The ministry stated that a part of a mobile crane had fallen into the sea after its boom failed while lifting material for the sheet piling work on a jack-up platform near Villimale’. The ministry revealed that no one was injured in the incident and no other equipment was damaged. It further stated that the incident has not resulted in changes to the project’s schedule and noted that misleading reports have been made about the incident.

A similar incident occurred on August 16 when a bridge platform used for the Thilamale’ Bridge project ran aground, causing damage to the reef after its anchor became embedded in the sea floor. The platform was removed from the area on August 27.
