Bridging the Communities Maldives (BCM), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has held a cultural night to raise funds for women affected by the Pakistan flood.
The cultural night was inaugurated by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula at the Manhattan Business Hotel. Guests at the event included the President of Dhivehi Language Academy Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem, President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) Fuad Thaufeeq, Pakistan High Commissioner to the Maldives Vice Admiral (Retired) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani and other senior officials at the high commission.
Speaking at the event, High Commissioner Gilani highlighted the close relationship between the two countries and said the Maldives is like a second home to Pakistanis. He said the Maldives has always been a close ally that provides assistance whenever Pakistan needed help, noting the fundraiser held by the BCM as an example.
During the event, High Commissioner Gilani was gifted with traditional Maldivian clothing, and the guests were presented with a video presentation on Pakistani culture and an exhibition showcasing traditional Pakistani items. Minister Nahula also honoured members of BCM with tokens of appreciation from the High Commission of Pakistan, for their valuable contribution to organise the fundraiser.
BCM stated that the funds raised at the event will be used to procure food and medicine for the victims.
