Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has stated that a crane used for the Thilamale' Bridge project has fallen into the sea.
Speaking to the media, the ministry told reporters that the crane fell onto the platform on which it was placed. The ministry said that no one was injured in the incident. The government is making efforts to determine the cause of the incident and has assured it will not halt the progress of the project.
Thilamale’ Bridge is being developed under the Greater Male’ Connectivity Project (GMCP), contracted to Indian-based Afcons Infrastructure Limited. The project began operations on August 2022 and will be completed by the end of next year and connected to Thilafushi in 2024
