Tourist arrivals increase 28.7% in 2022

Ministry of Tourism has recorded a 28.7% increase in tourist arrivals so far with the Maldives close to achieving the arrival target set for 2022.

The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show that 1.5 million tourists have visited the Maldives as of December 3, 2022, which is a significant increase compared to the 1.1 million arrivals during the same period last year. However, it is a 2.5% decrease compared to the number of tourist arrivals during the same period in 2019.

The statistics show that 131,764 tourists arrived in the Maldives in January, 149,008 visitors arrived in February, 150,748 visitors arrived in March, 145,280 visitors arrived in April, 125,522 visitors arrived in May, 110,889 visitors arrived in June, 133,561 visitors arrived in July, 131,862 visitors arrived in August, 111,986 visitors arrived in September, 153,737 visitors arrived in October, 146,886 visitors arrived in November, and 17,055 during the first three days of December.

The statistics show that the highest number of tourists visited from India, with 14.1% of the market share. The second highest number of tourists visited from Russia with 12.2% of the market share, and the third highest number of tourists visited from the United Kingdom (UK) with 10.8% of the market share.

The government has set a target of welcoming 1.6 million tourists in 2022. The government also expects to reach this target by December 15 based on the current tourist arrival figures.
