Cocoon Maldives launches foundation for society development

Cocoon Collections, an international luxury tourism brand in the Maldives, has launched the Cocoon Foundation to protect the environment and build youth in various fields.

The foundation was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and officials from Cocoon Collection at a ceremony held at You and Me by Cocoon Maldives in Raa Atoll.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the foundation, Minister Mausoom said that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or businesses helping society is not so common in the real sense. He, however, said the government welcomes the establishment of a foundation dedicated to people building.

Corporate General Manager of Cocoon Collection Ahmed Jihad said it is a great pleasure to help society as a growing luxury brand. He said the councils and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will work together to benefit the youth and society with the initiative.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Cocoon Collection Alex Azzola said the foundation does not aim to give money to help the community but instead wants to build the youth in various fields in order to help the community.

The Italian Cocoon brand opened its first resort in Lhaviyani Atoll in 2015, Since then, a resort with an underwater restaurant has been opened in Raa Atoll called Cocoon You and Me. In addition to the Maldives, Cocoon operates a resort hotel in Zanzibar.
