The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has commenced the 12th round of the training programme on the Civil Procedure Code for magistrates and employees of the judicial offices.
DJA said that the training programme was launched in Ungoofaaru, Raa Atoll. The programme was inaugurated by Supreme Court Justice Aisha Shujune Mohamed. The programme is conducted for Raa Atoll, Baa Atoll, Kaafu Atoll, Alifu Alifu Atoll, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. A total of 60 magistrates, legal officers, chief administrators, and administrative employees from these atolls participated in the training programme, DJA said. The programme focuses on the admission, trial, and enforcement of cases under the Code, according to the DJA.
The programme focuses on providing information on the objectives of civil procedure and the new rules and changes introduced under the Code. The programme also provides information on filing a civil case, registration, trial administration, counter-claim, additional charge, and judgment in appearance. In addition, information on court orders, interim orders, and non-controversial cases will be given during the programme, according to DJA.
The Civil Procedure Code was ratified by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on December 16, 2021. It encompasses the rules relating to pre-trial procedures, proceedings at trial, general rules of evidence applicable to civil cases, judgments, orders, and enforcement of judgments in civil proceedings. The code came into effect on June 16, 2022, six months after ratification.
The purpose of the Civil Procedure Code is to enhance the efficiency of the civil litigation process and to ensure that cases are decided in a just and transparent manner. The Civil Procedure Code will apply to all courts overseeing civil matters.
