Tourist arrivals 6.5% higher than 2019 and 2021

Ministry of Tourism has recorded a 6.5% increase in tourist arrivals in November 2022 compared to the same period in 2019 and 2021.

The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show that 1.5 million tourists visited the Maldives as of November this year, which is a significant increase compared to the 144,725 arrivals recorded in the same period in 2021 and the 137,921 arrivals recorded in 2019.

The statistics show that the highest number of tourists visited from India with 14% of the market share of 209,725 arrivals. The second-highest number of tourists visited from Russia with 182,337 arrivals. The third-highest number of tourists was from the United Kingdom (UK) with 162,020 arrivals. The fourth-highest number of tourists visited from Germany with 122,449 arrivals. The fifth-highest number of tourists visited from Italy with 82,292 arrivals. An average of 4,800 tourists arrive in the Maldives every day, according to the tourism ministry.

The statistics show that more than 100,000 tourists have visited the Maldives every month this year which is an increase compared to the 1.7 million arrivals in 2019 and the 1.3 million arrivals in 2021. There are currently 1,197 tourist attractions in the country with a total of 60,000 tourist beds.

The government has set a target of welcoming 1.6 million tourists in 2022. The government also expects to reach this target by December 15 based on the current tourist arrival figures.
