The Coast Guard of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has captured three foreign vessels from Sri Lanka that were illegally fishing in Maldivian waters. MNDF has not yet released any further details.
MNDF also captured a foreign fishing boat that had illegally entered the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Maldives earlier on November 20 and another one in September last year.
Foreign fishing vessels illegally fishing in the EEZ of the Maldives are occasionally reported. MNDF appreciated the great cooperation provided by the local fishermen in the seizure of such vessels.
