Development of 400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi to commence in 2023

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has revealed that the development of 400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi City will commence in February 2023.

Speaking at the ceremony to hand over 165 row houses to the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, Minister Aslam said housing is a major issue in all parts of the Maldives and that there are 1,200 residents of Kulhudhuffushi in need of housing. As such, he said the government has commenced housing projects in the city and other parts of the country. He assured that the project to develop 400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi will begin in February.

Also at the ceremony, the Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City Mohamed Athif said the row houses were developed after holding extensive discussions with the government to build them in accordance with the wishes of the residents. He said the housing units will also be developed after gaining the opinions of the residents.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted the project to develop 400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi City in July. The project was contracted to the joint venture of Donbez Private Limited and the 23rd Metallurgical Construction Group Co. Limited. The joint venture is tasked with completing the project within 540 days at a price of USD29 million. The project involves the construction of 400 housing units measuring 1,000sqft each. Each housing unit will consist of three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and one sitting room. The units will also have a kitchen, laundry room, and storeroom. The area surrounding the housing units will be developed with a courtyard and parking area.
