President congratulates India for assuming G20 presidency

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India assuming the Presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) forum.

In his message on Twitter, President Solih congratulated Prime Minister Modi, as well as the government and people of India, and expressed confidence in India’s leadership to promote diplomacy and dialogue to build consensus and find enduring solutions to pressing issues in global affairs.

President of Indonesia Joko Widodo officially handed over the Presidency to Prime Minister Modi at the end of the G20 summit in November. The presidency rotates annually between members. The prime minister said India’s G20 agenda will be inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented, and decisive and called for member countries to prioritise healing, harmony, and hope. The theme of India’s G20 presidency is One Earth, One Family, One Future.

The G20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union (EU). It works to address major issues related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development.
