Shammu represents Maldives at the ABU Festival

ABU TV Song Festival is an annual non-competitive gala that showcases songs or instrumentals by musicians across Asia, organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). Participating countries that have full or additional full ABU membership are invited to submit a song to be performed in front of a live audience.

As a member of ABU, Public Service Media (PSM) from the Maldives has been providing opportunities for local artists at the festival. As such, since its debut in 2014, the Maldivian entry has been organised by the national broadcaster Television Maldives (TVM). In 2019, Maldives withdrew from the festival, but then returned in 2022. The festival is held in different countries every year. The festival this year was held in New Delhi, India.

Maldives at ABU TV Songs Festival this year was represented by prominent musician Shammoon Mohammed (Shammu). He is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Equatic Vibe. At the festival, he performed the band's own song Magey Raajje which was released in 2019 at ITB Berlin. The song tells the story of the natural beauty of the Maldives. The song in detail describes the beauty of the beaches and lagoons of the Maldives and the charming silence of the islands.

The festival featured famous performers from nine countries. Besides the Maldives, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Vietnam also participated in the festival.
