Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the names of candidates for the upcoming Maldives Media Council (MMC) election scheduled to be held on December 10.
The ministry stated that in addition to 10 media outlets, 12 individuals from the public are also contesting in the election. The members elected from the public will be open to those who do not work in any field related to media.
MMC is legally empowered to regulate online media in the Maldives. The council consists of eight representatives of the media and seven representatives of the public. The term of 13 of the 15 members of the MMC expires on December 14. Therefore, the home ministry is electing seven members representing the media and six members from the public.
